Other people's shopping lists
This project is the outcome of my lockdown collaboration with Emma Graney.
We worked together on this little book about her amazing collection of 500+ shopping lists that she found over 10 years.
Emma’s collection is like an anthology of short stories. Each piece of paper can tell so much through all its details: the paper, the colours, the handwriting, the layout (or lack thereof). This has been a really fun project to work on!
Emma and I spent a good amount of time curating the selection of shopping lists, and chose 6 categories to divide them into.
The colourful chapter opening spreads feature a mix of different typefaces, a cheeky nod to the crazy amount of different handwriting styles that we found on the lists.
The endpapers feature a typographic pattern made of all the misspelled words and abbreviations that we found on the lists.
We wanted the shopping lists to be the heroes of each page, therefore the layout is simple and minimalist - with just a few words that highlight our favourite items, or our favourite spelling mistakes.
